DESCRIPTION
Ferry MF Johannes Hevelius sank on 14th January 1993 during a trip from Swinoujscie to Ystad during unusually heavy storm - a force 12 on the Beaufort scale . Tilting started at approx . 4:10 , at 4:36 tilt increased to 35 ° , there was a drop- deck cargo from and ultimately the ferry turned upside down at 5:12 .
During the crash killed 55 people , 20 crew members and 35 people ( all passengers ) . 10 bodies not found. Only rescued nine crew members.
Ferry was built in 1977 in the yard Trosvik ( Brevik , Norway ) for Polish Ocean Lines , was named after the astronomer Johannes Hevelius in Gdansk . With the twin unit MF Copernicus worked on the Świnoujście - Ystad transporting trucks and railway wagons .
In September 1986, on board a big fire broke out ( no one was hurt ) . The owner of the event made ​​inadequate repairs and flooded the deck burnt concrete, thereby increasing the stability problems (ferry had them from the start due to faulty built superstructure and ballast system ) .

DIVING DESCRIPTION
Currently the wreck lies on the left side at a depth of 24m. It is fairly simple to navigate. Due to rusting cargo securing inside the hold is not recommended to penetrate.
