DESCRIPTION
German warship taking part in Operation Hannibal intended to evacuate the German population of East Prussia. In previous raid was bombed and immobilized. Despite the damage to the engine was selected to carry people. Was pulled by tugboat to transport a large group of children to one of the ports in Germany. During the storm lost mooring line and drift ran aground at the height of Mount Swedes 200m from the current lighthouse in Hel .
The captain knew that despite the short distance to the shore his passengers - hildren can not cope with the cold water and evacuation in the Baltic Sea.
To save any one he stretch a rope between the highest mast ship and trees on the land. He succeeded in this way to save about 100 passengers.
Wreck in subsequent years some tried to raise placing inder him wooden beams. For unknown reasons, these activities ceased .
Due to the structure of the wreckage and found the wreckage beneath the beam was mistakenly referred to as " two wrecks in one place , commonly under item 2 in 1"
