New wreck in Baltic – MS Georg Buchner
30 may 2013 in the waters around cape of Rozewie a german passenger vessel MS Georg Buchner sunken. Vessel built in 1951, but it wasn’t during next journey, but on the way to Kłajpedy in Lithuania were it should be scrapped. Those plans complicated late evening around 8 pm. 25 minutes later the vessel sunk and settled on the depth of 35m.
This way fans of diving got unexpected surprise for child day. Gigantic wreck with 154m length and breadth of 20m, located in the non-deco dive limits? It’s too beautiful to be true.
Yet! With each next hour passing information about the vessel sunk gathered, the perspective of a new interesting dive spot become to be real. What’s more, nearly we would have two wrecks. Necessary was to cut the tow line which Georg Buchner was towed to save the tug.
On Wednesday inspections by the Maritime Office in Gdynia will start. However we can see in the internet materials that our people where there already. Except materials from dives on the newest Baltic wreck, we can find lots of interesting photos.
Perhaps the optimize of the diving society is still too fast. Plans which are made by the Maritime Office in Gdynia are to accurate the location of the wreck, findings resulting from this situation, risks and call the owner to extract and remove the vessel. If it want be done in 6 months, wreck will be still removed by the money from the insurance company and later scrapped. Profits from this will go to the account of the country.
Hurry up to dive on wrecks, cause they disappear so fast…
