About diving in the Baltic Sea

Diving in the Baltic Sea should be exceptional. It's hard to compare them to other waters of the world. The green color of the water, often variable visibility and weather conditions require from the diver special preparation, knowledge and skills of diving.
The thing that is  attracting divers in this region of the world most is a huge amount of wrecks, some of them due to its uniqueness among the forefront of dive sites in Europe.
Here are some tips on scuba diving in the Baltic Sea. We hope that they will be helpful.
Water temperature
Diving in the Baltic Sea you have to use a properly warm suit. The deeper you dive, the lower the temperature is. Although at the surface of water in the summer the temperature is around 20st.C going down deeper it will drastically decrease, up to 2-4 degrees Celsius in extreme cases.
You can not unambiguously determine at what level will be broken down by month.
In terms of temperature warmest water we have in the period June-September. Wreck up to 30m can meet with temperatures around 8-15st C. When diving deeper is expected to lower the temperature only.
In the period October - May, temperature ranges up to 30m depth in the range of 2-8st.C.

For visitors Baltic recommend dry or wet suits consisting of two parts 7 +7 mm
Salinity
The salinity of the Baltic Sea is negligible. Due to the numerous existing rivers providing fresh water, the salinity of the Baltic Sea often does not exceed 7%
When planning the selection of lead can take max 1kg more in relation to the balance in inland waters (sweet).
Visibility
Visibility as the temperature is governed by its own laws. No one is able to clearly answer what visibility will be for example day. Sometimes conditions change very rapidly. In the winter until the beginning of June the visibility is the best , its range reaches up to 20-25m. Due to the color of the bottom of the greater likelihood of better visibility from the open sea than for example the Gulf of Gdansk. Brighter bottom in a significant increase visibility through a greater amount of ambient light. Darker bottom does not reflect light so that the visibility of these areas appears to be inferior. In the Gulf of Gdansk visibility often does not exceed 15m.

Visibility also depends on the depth of diving, in the Gulf of Gdansk below 30m there is no sunlight for at diving below this depth requires the use of a flashlight diving. Wreck diving below 40m from the sea open often do not require the use of a flashlight.
Due to the changing conditions every diver should be equipped with at least one light source.

The dangers associated with wreck diving
Nets
Diving on wrecks has been reckoned with the danger. Often left by fishermen nets and line clipped by anglers pose a threat to visitors wreck divers. Always plunging into the water must be equipped with at least one device for cutting!
Wrecks which are often visited by divers are regularly cleaned from the nets by the organizers diving and skippers. Fishermen in these times know the exact positions of wrecks and not wanting to lose their nets bypass them. Nevertheless, as a diver should always be prepared for the use of an instrument for cutting.
Currents
In the Gulf of Gdansk ocean currents are quite rare. Gulf of Gdansk is devoid of the dangers of exclusion wrecks located on the eastern shore of the Hel peninsula. Mixing water with the open sea in the bay often causes a lot of water movement hindering diving.
Diving from the open sea always be ready to present ocean currents. Sometimes they are present only at the time of water level at the bottom only. Tend to dive during which the direction of the current varies depending on the depth of the dive. Typically, they are not strong enough to correct the movement of fins to be able to oppose them.
Weather and wave
Often you can not plan a dive even a week before the scheduled date. Variable weather and above all, the sea wave disturb you. Rarely it happens that the dive can not be ... If you fail to dive in the open sea you can usually do it in the Gulf of Gdansk, protected by Hel peninsula. If blowing from the mainland wrecks located closer Gdynia and Gdansk allow diving.
